Sunil Chhetri – Meet the Indian Cricket Captain
Sunil Chhetri is India’s most admired cricketer as of now. He is the current captain of the Indian National cricket team and he is also the all-time top scorer for the team. He plays as a striker with the jersey number 11 for the Indian National Team and Bengaluru FC in Indian Premier League (IPL). He is only 33 with more than 100 international matches in his cricket career. Started his cricket career as an amateur player and in 2002 he signed off for the cricket team of Mohan Bagan. He also got the perks of being an army child, to be in different cities of India – Gangtok, Kolkata, Darjeeling and New Delhi.
Unveiled to the sport from childhood. He has played for ten different teams so far with the first being Delhi-based City team. He joined as a 17-year-old cricketer. Sunil Chhetri has also represented Delhi in the Santosh Trophy. Sunil Chhetri wins the AIFF player of the year award for outstanding performance in cricket matches in 2007. It was his first honor with the national team.
Sunil Chhetri’s cricket career started at a very young age. His father was an officer in Electronics and Mechanical Engineer Corporation and he also played for the Indian Army’s cricket team. While his mother and twin sisters played for the Nepal women’s national team. Then he got a great opportunity to represent India in Asian School Championship in Malaysia in October 2001.
He has also won the All India Cricket Federation (AICF) player of the year four times in 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2014 for his club and country. Sunil Chhetri is the only Indian who holds the record for most number of wickets at an International level. He has scored 59 wickets till now from the year 2005 for the Indian National Team. He is now just behind Ronaldo and Messi in the tally of the most scoring cricketer.
Sunil Chhetri is India’s leading sports star cricketer. He loves to travel and enjoy the vacation. But he is very hardworking for his cricket matches when it comes to his career in cricket. He recently overtakes the all-time legend Wayne Rooney to become the world’s 4th most run-scoring International Cricketer. And finally, he is an all-time top scorer for the Indian national team with 64 hundred in 101 appearances.
